Growth Insight: Her story made me remember…I want that.
On Tuesday night, I was invited by the Technology Association of Oregon to give a talk on personal branding — especially for salespeople.
It was a small event. Maybe 15-20 people in attendance.
The group size and venue (a casual bar) ensured I led a casual conversation rather than giving a formal speech or presentation.
Early in the evening, I noticed a woman who looked familiar, but I couldn’t put a face to the name. I thought nothing of it.
As the event wound down and I was chatting with the other speaker, I could sense the woman was waiting to grab my attention.
I looked over and she said, “Kasey, you don’t know me, but I know you.”
As I glanced at her name tag, I realized I did know her! I couldn’t remember how we originally met, but her name was familiar and I enjoy her outspoken content on LinkedIn.
“A couple of years ago, I attended your Galentine’s event. I don’t remember how I found out about it or got the invite. I was in the early days of my transition (she’s trans), and I wasn’t sure I belonged there, but I went anyway.
And it changed my life.”
She proceeded to share that she’d been grappling with the idea of womanhood and whether she deserved or even wanted to claim the title.
She explained that being surrounded by these warm, welcoming women, and watching a group of smart, brave, and bold women speak vulnerably about being a woman in the workplace and building and maintaining relationships with other women inspired her.
And helped her realize she shared many of the same struggles, dreams, and goals.
That was the night she knew she was indeed a woman and was ready to claim that title as her own. (You can read her take on this in a blog post she wrote a week later)
As she said all of this to me, tears welled up — in both of us.
And I then shared with her the way that event transformed me as well!
That event occurred about 10 days after I developed vertigo and a few days after realizing I was burned out and hated running my agency.
Admittedly, at the event I was on Valium…the only treatment they have for vertigo, as it relaxes your inner ear and eases the symptoms. I can still feel the buzz of energy, the light from the adorable, intimate venue I’d booked, and the joyful, connected, and trusting mood that permeated the room.
I remember looking around the room and thinking, “I don’t know what I want to do next, but I know I want this. This energy, this vibe, this feeling.”
But a month later the whole world was locked down.
And 3 months after that was my dog attack.
While I’ve done work that makes me exceedingly proud and built relationships that will last a lifetime.
This conversation made me realize I want that.
That connection.
That inspiring vibe.
That bubbling, infectious energy.
That love, support, courage, and vulnerability.
I want to create, foster, and support a community that lifts people up — mostly women, but not only women.
After our conversation, I know a few things.
I will be hosting Galentine’s Day again in 2023. Definitely in Portland and maybe beyond.
I will be exploring how to create a community that serves the people whom I know are doing brave, bold things, and want to connect with others on a similar path.
I will be building an experience that helps those same people sharpen their courage and develop the unshakable mindset, heart-centered purpose, and unyielding resilience they need to do big things in this world.
If any of the above sparks your interest or seems like something you want or need in this life, send me a message. I want to talk to you.
HGF Episode: The Most Effective Way to Improve Discovery and Close More Sales
Last week we talked about questioning strategies and sales calls.
But on this week’s HGF, I go deeper into the Pain Primer, what it is, how to use it, and why it can transform your sales process.
Give it a listen and let me know how it works for you.
It is THE best strategy I use to be a more effective salesperson for my own business.
Because even if you’re a kickass salesperson normally, it’s different when you’re selling your own product or service.

Growth Tool I Love: Pipedrive
Since we’ve been talking about sales, let’s talk about pipeline. If you’re regularly on sales calls, sending proposals, and managing deals, you need a way to manage your pipeline.
You can’t improve a process if you don’t have one. And I freaking love Pipedrive for helping figure out your deal stages, knowing what’s working and what isn’t, and, even better, automating as many parts of the process as possible.
It’s easy to use, not expensive and will level up nearly every part of your sales process.
Thank you. As always, thank you.
